My shiny new TV

I had my mind set on getting an LCD TV for a while now, but I couldn’t get the money together and I was looking into my credit options. I ended up looking for a credit card on this Australian site that has a really good range of stuff, www.CreditCards.com.au.

I first thought had been to just ring my bank and ask what they had. I’m glad I didn’t and decided to look for an online credit card instead as there’s no way I would have gotten as good a deal if I’d gone to just one bank. I didn’t realise how little I knew about credit cards before, or about how credit card companies can offer deals that seem like they should run them out of business.

Anyway, I was going to just look for credit cards with a low cost and low interest rate at first, but after looking at the comparison page this site had, I decided it might be worth more consideration than that. I figured I could probably repay the TV back pretty fast but not within any interest free period, so low interest credit cards might be a good choice, but the amount of reward points a big purchase like a TV could earn got me interested in reward program credit cards.

I ended up looking in the ANZ credit cards page and found the ANZ Balance Visa. It seemed like the right credit card to get me to repay my TV, as it rewards for repayments instead of spending. It has interest free days and a pretty good purchase rate, so I think it’ll be worth keeping after the TV is paid off.

The best part was how little effort it all took, as the comparison pages on the site were linked to the credit card application forms. Once I’d decided what I wanted, I just clicked through and the rest of the process was pretty straightforward. I provided some details and then submitted the form. A couple of weeks later I’m watching my new TV and earning reward points as I pay off.
